Internet Security Systems - AlertCon(TM)

The icon above gives an indication of the current Internet Threat Level according to ISS. AlertCon measures the current threat level of online attacks, providing a real-time indication of the Internet threat environment. The AlertCon service helps readers quickly determine the likelihood of an attack against their online assets, enabling them to immediately review critical security areas to protect corporate infrastructure.

Internet Security Systems provides a standardized 1-4 scale that measures active Internet risks. These AlertCon levels are established on a daily basis by ISS world-renowned research and development team of elite security experts, the X-Force, and through ISS Global Threat Operations Center (GTOC) based on Internet activity monitored over the previous 24 hours and anticipated activity for the next 48 hours. The four levels of AlertCon are described in the table below.

AlertCon Levels

AlertCon 1 - Regular vigilance. Ordinary activity compromises an unprotected network minutes to hours after first being connected to the Internet.

AlertCon 2 - Increased vigilance. Vulnerabilities or threats to computer networks require vulnerability assessment and corrective action.

AlertCon 3 - Focused attacks. Specific vulnerabilities and weaknesses are the target of Internet attacks and require immediate defensive action.

AlertCon 4 - Catastrophic threat. Critical security situations within a network dictate an immediate and focused defensive action. This condition may be imminent or ongoing.
